A successful performance audition is required for acceptance into the Department of Music. Prospective students may audition on any standard band/orchestral instrument, voice, or piano (sorry - no guitar or organ).
Audition materials should demonstrate the applicant's musical and technical ability and be representative of the applicant’s present stage of musical performance ability. In general, auditions will consist of a minimum of two prepared works of contrasting styles. Scales and sight reading also may be required. For further information regarding specific audition requirements, contact the Music Office at 814-393-2287 or the faculty member in your performance area.
As a component of the audition process, prospective students also will be asked to demonstrate their current level of knowledge and proficiency in music theory/aural skills and piano through placement examinations. These examinations are used as diagnostic tools for the faculty to insure students are placed into courses at an appropriate ability level.
