Psi Chi

Psi Chi National Honor Society

Psi ChiPsi Chi is the National Honor Society in psychology. Psi Chi seeks to enhance psychology by supporting professional organizations and educational activities. The Clarion chapter of the society encourages and supports student professional development through discussions, speakers and trips to professional meetings. Our chapter has a long record of community service projects which function both to assist others and learn about ourselves. Students who have strong academic records and are interested in psychology are eligible to join.

Psi Chi offers a range of local, regional, and national programs. At the regional level, Psi Chi sponsors conventions in conjunction with the annual Midwestern Psychological Association conference in Chicago. The national organization holds a convention in conjunction with the American Psychological Association, sponsors undergraduate and graduate research award programs, and publishes a quarterly newsletter. National membership in Psi Chi has a one-time only fee of $35. Local dues are $10/year, $6/semester.

The advantages of membership include:

  • Achievement and recognition of excellence implied by membership lead to personal fulfillment. By recognizing that what you do does make a difference, you are more productive.

  • The references provided by faculty and Psi Chi's advisor throughout one's lifetime as a result of their ability to come to know you better are alone worth the investment.

  • The experience gained by working with Psi Chi is excellent for building up a resume. It is difficult to attain that first managerial and creative experience.

  • Psi Chi is a springboard for professional growth. Opportunities are made available to the members for promoting their research, for national and international recognition, for contacts and interaction with the leaders in their field, and to meet Psi Chi members of other chapters who also will be future leaders.

  • The United States Government recognizes membership in Psi Chi as meeting one of the requirements for entrance at the GS-7 level in the Federal Service.

  • You'll receive a membership certificate and card which give tangible evidence of membership.

Students who wish to join Psi Chi must meet the requirements listed below:

  • Completion of eight semester hours in psychology or completion of six semester hours and registration for at least two additional hours.

  • Major or minor in psychology

  • Rank in the upper 35 percent of class in general scholarship (overall QPA at least 3.0)

  • Superior performance in psychology courses (psychology QPA at least 3.2)

  • Approval by 75 percent of the members present at a regular meeting of the chapter

  • If you are interested in joining Psi Chi, please fill out an application and return it to one of the Psi Chi officers, the Psi Chi advisor (Jeanne Slattery), or Diana Kunselman, the Psychology Department secretary. We would like to have you as a member of Psi Chi and need your talents to help make our chapter the best honor society at Clarion University. We hope you will join Psi Chi soon!
