How large are the classes in the biology department at Clarion?

Lecture size in freshman biology is approximately 120 students. Lab section size in freshman biology is approximately 24 students.

Lecture and lab size in advance biology courses is 10-20 students.


Where have clarion biology graduates gone to for post undergraduate work?

Clarion graduates have received post-doctoral fellowships at Harvard University, Brown University, Duke University, and the National Institutes of Health.


What can I do with my biology degree from Clarion?

Clarion graduates are in Ph.D. programs, medical school, or veterinary school at Yale, Dartmouth, Duke, Johns Hopkins, University of Pennsylvania, University of North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Auburn, University of Wisconsin, Ohio State University, University of Kentucky, Penn State University, University of Pittsburgh, and many others.

Clarion ecology graduates have received employment offers from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection USX, Clarion, IFC Kaiser International, Conte Anadromous Fish Lab, and the Susquehanna River Basin Commission.

Clarion molecular biology graduates have received employment offers from DuPont Chemical, Janssen Research Foundation (Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceuticals), Oak Ridge National Laboratory, American Tissue Type Laboratory, Gibson BRL Inc., University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Clutch, Immunex, Visible Genetics, Oceanic Biotech and Trevagen Biotech.


Will I be able to do research while I attend Clarion?

Clarion undergraduates have abundant opportunities for undergraduate research. Full-time faculty in fields from molecular biology and cell biology to organism biology and ecology offer a board range of professional expertise and career advisement.

Clarion undergraduates annually win awards for their research at scientific meetings.

Clarion undergraduates have done paid summer internships at Cold Spring Laboratory, Jackson Laboratories Maine, University of Hawaii, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, University of Florida, Oak Ridge National Lab in Tennessee, University of Texas San Antonio, Case Western Reserve, University of Rochester, Ohio State University, University of Pittsburgh, Miami University, West Virginia University, Pittsburgh Tissue Engineering Initiative, and many others.


What type of training and where have the faculty in the Biology Department trained?

One hundred percent of tenure-track faculty hold the Ph.D. and have research experience with prestigious universities throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.


Is there finical aid as well as other types of funds while I attend Clarion?

Eighty percent of our students receive some form of financial aid.  Furthermore, there are a variety of scholarships available for biology students to help offset the cost of college tuition.  Finally, there are work-study opportunities for biology majors to earn further monies.
