2010 ESL Summer Camp

 Battary Park

Written by: Kate Coen - Continuing Education Student Worker (Freshman)

From Shanghai's Sanda University, twenty-four students came to America for a three-week ESL Summer camp. This camp allowed the students to experience life and culture in the United States while improving on reading, writing, and speaking the English language. In their classes with Dr. Mahmoud Amer, the students studied the native language and discovered the role of a typical American student.

Sanda's students did much more than studying, though. In a hectic schedule of classes, the students found time to enjoy Clarion, which they found "beautiful and peaceful." They preferred Clarion over New York City, where they visited landmarks and tourist attractions during the first week of the trip. Many enjoyed the day in Kennywood Amusement Park and movie night at Destinta Theatre. Chicago and Grove City Outlets, two additional trips, were the favorites of our Chinese visitors. Taking Grove City Outlets by storm, twenty-four Chinese students enjoyed a true American experience: shopping! Grove City was such a hit that they returned for a little extra shopping before taking the plane back to Shanghai.
