Glenn ThompsonCongressman Glenn "GT" Thompson will deliver the keynote address at the Clarion University–Venango Campus commencement on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., in the Robert W. Rhoades Center gymnasium at the campus.

Congressman Thompson was first elected to represent Pennsylvania's Fifth District in the U.S. House of Representatives on Nov. 4, 2008 and sworn in to his second term on Jan. 5, 2011.

Prior to his election, Congressman Thompson spent 28 years as therapist, rehabilitation services manager, and a licensed nursing home administrator. As a result, he understands the importance of access to quality healthcare in rural communities and has become a strong advocate for increased access, affordability, quality of care, and patient choice. He currently serves as co-chairman of the Congressional Healthcare Caucus.

Thompson also serves on the House Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Education and Workforce Committees, where he deals with issues facing rural businesses, communities, and families. In addition, during the current 112th Congress, he serves as chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy and Forestry.

Congressman Thompson is a graduate of Penn State and Temple Universities, where he earned his bachelor and a master's degrees in education, respectively. He and his wife, Penny Ammerman Thompson, have three adult sons, Parker, Logan, and Kale and reside in Howard Township, Centre County.

Associate degrees will be awarded to 123 students at the ceremony. In addition, 52 students enrolled in Venango Campus programs will be awarded bachelor and master's degrees in a commencement ceremony earlier in the day at the Clarion campus.
