The Annual Harvey Center Lecture--Sponsored by The Barbara Morgan Harvey Center for the Study of Oil Heritage--"Venango Campus: Fulfilling the Promise of a Brave New World", by Historian Neil McElwee.--When the first students of the Venango Campus of Clarion University walked into their temporary classrooms in the old Oil City Trust Co. Building on Sycamore Street in the fall of 1961, they began an uncharted adventure into a new world. The entire Venango County community walked with them. Establishing a branch campus of an existing Pennsylvania college recognized by the Pennsylvania Higher Education System was both unique and audacious. Community leaders of Venango County pursued a local presence of higher education that would provide the opportunity for their residents to become the very best they could be. Fifty years later, Venango Campus and the community are still here, still working together, stronger and better than ever. Join Neil McElwee and the entire Venango Campus community to celebrate the first fifty years of the Venango Campus as we enter the next era of the brave new world
