This 108 year-old, 50,000 sq. ft. former residence hall is being completely renovated to serve as a Student Success Center. The building will house all departments with which students normally transact business rather than having to seek out services throughout campus. An entirely new interior structure is being built within the historic exterior walls and historic architectural fabric has been salvaged and will be re-installed on the interior. This $16.6M project has been funded by the Department of General Services and will be completed in summer 2015.
THE REC CENTER POOL
This exciting addition to the Rec Center will provide nearly 11,000 sq. ft. of recreational pool use. The facility will allow for swimming activities but also will provide a place for large gatherings such as dances, movies, and intramurals. The pool will have lap lanes, volleyball, a climbing wall, bubble bed, and a 38 person spa. The room will have a sound and light system for events. The $4.2M project is being paid for by the Clarion Student Association and is expected to open in winter of 2016.
New residential Suites are taking shape on each side of East Main Street on the Clarion campus. The two, four-story buildings will replace the 43 year-old Wilkinson and Nair residence halls. They will provide housing for 728 students in 373 suites. The suites will be a mix of single and double bedroom units. The facades have been designed to complement those downtown and retail outlets in the lower floors will include a classroom/theater, Starbucks, the University Store, and a restaurant. The $61M project is entirely funded by housing fees of the students who will live in the suites. The 216,000 sq. ft. project is being developed, financed, and constructed by the Clarion University Foundation, Inc. The first building will open in August 2016 with the second opening in December 2016.
The Renovation and Expansion of the 45 year-old Tippin Gymnasium is in the final design phase. The project includes creating a new University arena as a bowl concept, a new natatorium for competition swimming events; a multi-purpose auxiliary gym; a wrestling room; a two-story, glass-enclosed strength and conditioning facility; a dance and yoga studio; and state-of-the-art classrooms and athletic training center.
Over 112,000 sq. ft. are being renovated and nearly 50,000 sq. ft. are being added. The entire exterior will receive a new facade that incorporates a significant amount of glass. The project totals nearly $45M and is hoped to begin in July 2015 and be completed in phase, ending fall 2017. The projected is being funded, designed, and constructed by the Department of General Services of the commonwealth.
