Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
What every University employee should know......
FERPA is a federal law that governs how we protect and disclose student educational records. As a recipient of federal funding, we are obligated to comply with FERPA. The Act provides for the right to inspect and review education records, the right to seek to amend those records, and the right to limit disclosure of information from the records. The intent of the legislation is to protect the rights of students and to ensure the privacy and accuracy of education records.
To assist University faculty and staff in understanding FERPA and its impact on their professional responsibilities, the Office of the Registrar has developed an online presentation. To access the presentation, please go to the www.clarion.edu/6913/ and click on the FERPA Workshop Presentation.
