Middle Level Education with Special Education: Science Concentration

Science teachers are in high demand as are teachers who can meet students where they are academically.

This program is a five-year plan for earning the Middle level: Science Concentration teacher certification as well as K-8 Special Education.  Candidates who complete all program requirements earn both a B.S. Ed. and a M. Ed.  Information about admission to graduate school for the final year of this program may be found by visiting Graduate Studies.

The first four years engages the students in the Middle level: Science program with foundation Special Education courses. The last three semesters, the program shifts to graduate level study in Special Education.

Teacher candidates in this program are prepared to teach regular and special needs students all subjects in Grades 4-6 as well as Science Grades 4-8. Graduates also are certified to teach special needs students K-4.

Clarion University Teacher Education faculty continually update their coursework and field experience assignments to reflect the changing school environments as well as Pennsylvania and National Academic Standards for learning and teaching. Education Department faculty are all certified teachers and average over 15 years of K-12 classroom experience.

While a few courses in undergraduate education programs may be offered online, the majority of the program is on campus in highly interactive face-to-face instruction. Field experiences in schools are integrated during all four years of the program, with larger blocks of time spent in Grades 4-8 school settings during the junior, senior and last graduate years. More information about field experiences, required certification tests and clearances as well as student teaching may be found by visiting the Office of Field Services.
