Venango College of Clarion University offering summer dance camp
OIL CITY, PA—Venango College of Clarion University’s Office of Continuing Education is offering a summer dance camp in June. Casey McVay will direct and lead the Summer Dance Camp. Camp will be held June 10th through June 12th and will include many class offerings including Mommy & Me, which is a creative movement class, Beginner and Intermediate Workshops, featuring a new acrobatics component, as well as ballet, tap, jazz and hip-hop, an adult session and a professional track session.
McVay started formal dance training at the age of three at Sigel's School of Dance in Altoona, one of the largest and most successful dance studios in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Her training was under the direction of Skip Sigel, a top Cecchetti teacher in the state who has danced as a professional with stars such as Frankie Avalon, Ann Miller, and Joel Gray. Casey’s dance training consists of ballet and pointe, Cecchetti, tap, jazz, contemporary, modern, theater and hip-hop.
“My favorite styles of dancing are contemporary and jazz,” noted Casey.
In her years as a student, McVay competed and won top awards at numerous Dance Master's of Pennsylvania competitions, danced beside a variety of professionals like Blake McGrath from So You Think You Can Dance and the movie Chicago, and took master classes from renowned artists. She performed with the Cecchetti Ballet Company of Pennsylvania and the Tom Riley Musical Theater Company.
After graduating from Sigel's, McVay went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mass Media, Arts and Journalism degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, maintained a leadership role on both the Clarion University Dance Team and Hip-Hop Team, performed during several dance concerts at the university, and was hired to perform with Team Deck, a group of Pennsylvania hip-hop artists.
Casey is honored and proud to have worked with and helped train her college dance partner, Christopher McCarthy, in contemporary jazz. McCarthy has gone on to work with Prince, Celine Dion, Bad Boys of Dance, Jennifer Lopez and many more. Ever since graduating from CUP, she has dreamed of sharing her passion for dance with others.
McVay recalls her most memorable performance as “presenting Tribute to MJ at Dance Masters, which won a platinum award and first place overall for a senior large group as well as playing Brooke Wyndham in Legally Blonde: the Musical at the Barrow Civic Theatre.”
Currently, she works for Venango College of Clarion University’s Office of Admissions and resides in Franklin with her husband and daughter. McVay surrounds herself with performance art by working with the Clarion University Dance Team and volunteering at the Barrow-Civic Theatre. She choreographs for the FUSION competitive team at Studio 22 in Franklin and is the Director of Rogers’ Gymnastics new Diamond Dance Company in Oil City. She recently choreographed the concert Rockin' to a Record with Rachael Mellor and the Barrow Civic Little Theatre's Cabaret 2014.
