Message from the Dean

Colleen McAleerDear Friends,

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to Venango College of Clarion University. Our mission is to serve the needs of the region and the Commonwealth through quality educational programs and outstanding services in a highly personal and caring environment.

My colleagues and I are immensely proud of the history of Venango College. Community leaders advocated the creation of an education institution in Oil City over 50 years ago and raised funding to establish the campus. That strong community support for education continues with facilities named for some of those community members whose financial support gave a wonderful gift to the region, the opportunity for a high quality education. Thanks to more recent generous financial support from our community, the Venango College offers student apartment housing, enabling it to serve students from a wide geographic area and also allowing for significant enrollment growth.

In summer 2014, Venango College academic unit expanded to include academic programs offered on the Clarion campus and became home to the newly formed School of Health Sciences. Venango College currently offers programs at the Venango and Clarion campuses, the Pittsburgh site, and online. Programs include a wide range of credit and non-credit programs, including associate, bachelor’s, master’s degrees, and a doctoral degree program in Nursing Practice. Additionally we offer certificate programs and continuing education courses and seminars that provide opportunities for personal enrichment and professional development. Further, students may begin any of Clarion University’s four-year degree programs at Venango College in Oil City.

Venango College’s partnerships allow us to meet the workforce needs of the region in a dynamic and highly flexible manner. To learn more about our extensive network of educational partnerships, please take a moment to read this brief overview.  Educational Partnerships (link)

Students can attend full-time or part-time and include traditional age college students and those who are returning to college after time spent in the home or the workplace. The college’s programs and services are designed to meet a wide range of needs and are offered with the flexibility that is required for a diverse community of learners. Please let us know how we can help you with educational plans.

Thank you for your interest in Venango College and I invite you to visit and see firsthand the vibrant energy of the campuses and the beauty of the region where there are plentiful opportunities for involvement and leadership on-campus, as well as outdoor recreational activities in the area.
