Domestic Violence and Abuse Awareness Day

The Presidential Commission on Sexual Harassment Prevention & Education and the Office of Social Equity sponsor an annual Domestic Violence and Abuse Awareness Day. The event hopes to not only offer resources from Clarion and surrounding counties but, additionally, to provide information that domestic violence is not limited to acts of physical violence. Through various art forms, Clarion University students and staff have represented physical, emotional and financial abuse.

 G. Chad Thomas captured these images that depict the different forms of domestic violence. Contrary to popular misconceptions, domestic violence isn't limited to physical abuse as these pictures try to convey.

At last year's Domestic Violence and Abuse Awareness Day event, students and faculty members submitted works of art including poetry, which were placed on display with the photographs depicting various forms of abuse. The following submissions are from students Mackenzie Pence and Sarah Rearigh:

"The Cycle," by Mackenzie Pence

"Untitled," by Sarah Rearigh

The hope is to one day put an end to trafficking in Pennsylvania and the United States. The following are resources to better educate yourself on trafficking and hotlines to call if you suspect trafficking activity:
