A.S. Paralegal Studies

Paralegals, or legal assistants, are employed or retained by a lawyer, law office, corporation, governmental agency or other entity. Paralegals perform legal work for which a lawyer is responsible. A paralegal may not practice law. The Associate of Science in paralegal studies is an American Bar Association-approved program featuring a strong business component. The degree can be used as an entry level paralegal degree or as a two-plus-two into the BSBA. The program is divided into three blocks of required courses. The general education and business core classes are required of all associate of science candidates to develop their ability to work and live as well-rounded and competent individuals in the business environment. The remaining courses are specialized legal courses designed to develop competence in substantive and procedural law. The legal courses are taught by experienced attorneys who practice what they are teaching. This program is offered at Clarion and Venango.

B.S.B.A. Paralegal Studies

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in paralegal studies is a unique and highly marketable paralegal business degree. Law practice is a business, and firms need individuals with expertise in the business field to manage their operations and their paralegal staff. Graduates of the B.S.B.A. Paralegal Studies program develop expertise in the business field and also become paralegals. Paralegals perform legal work for which a lawyer is responsible. A paralegal may not practice law. The program is accredited by the most elite business organization, Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International, and the most elite paralegal approval organization, the American Bar Association. The law classes are taught by experienced attorneys who practice what they are teaching. This program is offered at the Clarion campus.

Certificates And Certifications

Advanced Paralegal Studies Certificate

Clarion University offers an advanced paralegal studies certificate that will result in certification as a paralegal. A paralegal, or legal assistant, is a person qualified by education, training, or work experience who is employed or retained by a lawyer, law office, corporation, governmental agency or other entity and who performs legal work for which a lawyer is responsible. A paralegal may not practice law. The certificate is open to students who have completed a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, or have completed no less than 60 credits from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, or are currently enrolled at Clarion University of Pennsylvania in a bachelor’s program. The certificate is a 24-credit program that can be easily completed as part of a student’s current studies or used as a post-baccalaureate certificate. This certificate will allow graduates to be employed as paralegals. This program is offered at the Clarion and Venango campuses.

Advanced Paralegal Studies Oil and Gas Certificate

Clarion University offers an advanced paralegal studies oil and gas certificate that will result in certification as a paralegal. A paralegal, or legal assistant, performs legal work for which a lawyer is responsible. A paralegal may not practice law. This certificate will provide graduates with the skills and specialized knowledge to work as members of legal teams in the growing oil and gas industry. The certificate allows students to add law to their chosen career. The certificate is open to students who have completed a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, or have completed no less than 60 credits from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, or are currently enrolled at Clarion University of Pennsylvania in a bachelor’s program. This certificate is a 24-credit program that can be easily completed as part of a student’s current studies or used as a post-baccalaureate Certificate. This certificate will allow graduates to be employed in a multitude of settings in the oil and gas industry. This program is offered at the Clarion and Venango campuses.
