Referring Students for Assistance

You may refer a student to Writing Support at any stage in a writing assignment.

Are you teaching an online course?

Students enrolled in online courses may receive help with their writing by visiting Online Writing Support. To learn more about Online Writing Support click here.

On campus, visit us in 312 Becht Hall:

This semester the Writing Support is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

You may reach Writing Support at (814) 393-2173 or call the director, Dr. Christopher McCarrick at (814) 393-2739.

Writing consultants are available in Writing Support during our regularly scheduled hours for one-on-one, small group and classroom tutorials.

We will visit you:

A Writing Support consultant will visit your class to make customized presentations about our services. Call or email the director for more information.

When assigning a writing project:

Suggest students use Writing Support as a reliable support service.

If a visit to the center is a requirement of the assignment, or if you offer extra credit to students who visit the center, please send a copy of your assignment to the director for consultants to reference.

When a student needs particular assistance:

Indicate on the student's paper the type of assistance needed.

Sending students to Writing Support should not be punishment. Students who come to us with a negative attitude accomplish little and can become more resistant to writing.

Writing Support consultants are not miracle workers, editors or proofreaders. Writing consultants welcome writers and assist them at the level of each individual's ability.
