You can gain hands-on experience working for media organizations including Eagle MediaCU-TV-The Nest WCUC-FM-The Clutch, and The Clarion Call newspaper. Outside of class, network with communication professionals through national organizations including the American Advertising Federation Student Chapter, Public Relations Student Society of America, National Communication Association, and the Society for Collegiate Journalists.

Department of Communication Scholarships

All students also are encouraged to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which increases your odds of receiving additional financial support through grants and other types of financial aid. When researching scholarships, be aware of scholarship deadlines, scholarship contacts and certain preferences established by some donors. 

The goal of Clarion University's Office of Scholarships is to support the academic aspirations of prospective and current students. The office is dedicated to helping students financially access a quality education. Search the database.

Communication Scholarships: 

Henry Fueg Scholarship
This scholarship was established by former students, faculty, staff and leadership of Clarion University as well as family and friends to honor Dr. Henry “Hank” Fueg. Hank served in the Department of Communication for 31 years as a faculty member, mentor, advisor, television and radio station architect and contractor. This scholarship is intended for a Communication major with a demonstrated commitment to serve in campus media.

Dr. Mary Hardwick Communication Studies Scholarship
This Scholarship was established in recognition of the contributions made to the department by Professor Emeritus Mary Hardwick. During her tenure with the department, Dr. Hardwick was dedicated to the growth and development of students as well-rounded, well-educated individuals. Students majoring in Communication Studies (and are not graduating seniors) with a QPA of 3.0 or higher, who have participated in performance activities through the department, and demonstrated active participation in the life of the university are encouraged to apply for this scholarship.

Dr. James H. Cole Scholarship
A scholarship in honor of James D. Cole, the former dean of the School of Communication, is offered annually. Directed toward second semester undergraduates (15-32 credits) majoring in Communication with at least a 3.0 QPA. Final selection is made by department faculty on the basis of academic achievement, involvement in the Communication Department, and community service.

James J. Canelos Communication Scholarship
A scholarship in memory of alumnus Canelos is offered annually to a communication major, who has earned between 64 and 110 credits. Eligibility requires a minimum 3.4 QPA. Final selection is made by department faculty on the basis of academic record, contribution to the Communication Department and the university, participation in extracurricular activities, and financial need. 

Communication Department Endowed Scholarship
Offered annually by the department faculty on the basis of academic achievement (at least a 3.0 QPA), involvement in the Communication Department, and community service.


CU Mentor Program

The Department of Communication provides you with broad-based communication and writing skills, along with intensive professional career preparation. Working together with Clarion's Career Services we will help you plan your career, obtain internships and work experience, continue on to graduate school and to prepare for a job or internship.  We will even provide you with job search strategies.   


Support our Communication Upgrade Effort for Becker Hall

Your gifts will provide funding for equipment and facility upgrades to the television station, radio station and digital media labs. Additionally, it will enable current students to stream, broadcast and televise athletic events in the new Tippin arena facilities.
