As you plan for Commencement, there are several things that you will need to know and several important dates for you to remember. We know that Commencement is an important milestone in your life, and you will want to share it with your friends and family.
Dr. Ray Feroz, Chair
Department of Human Services, Rehabilitation, Health and Sport Sciences

Dr. Ray Feroz started teaching in Clarion University in 1990. He is currently professor and chairperson of the department of Human Services, Rehabilitation, Health & Sport Sciences. Previously he worked as Director of Behavioral Health at UPMC Northwest, a Psychologist at Warren State Hospital, and as a Rehabilitation Counselor and Director of Vocational Rehabilitation at Polk Center.
Dr. Feroz is past President of the National Rehabilitation Association, Pennsylvania Rehabilitation Association, Rehabilitation Counselors and Educators Association and the National Association for Rehabilitation Leadership. He currently serves as co-editor of the Rehabilitation Counselors and Educators Journal.
Dr. Feroz is currently president of the Venango County Human Services Advisory Board and the Warren State Hospital Board of Trustees. He currently serves as Treasurer of Northwest PA Job Connect -Workforce Development Board, and is a member of the Venango Region Catholic Schools board. Finally, he is president of the Clarion University faculty union, APSCUF.
Dr. Feroz was born and raised in Oil City and a graduate of Venango Christian High School. He was educated at Kent State, Boston University and the University of Pittsburgh. He experienced the May 4 1970 Kent State shootings and is a US Army Vietnam-era veteran. Ray lives in Seneca with his wife, Barb. They have 4 children and 9 grandchildren.
Samantha Horn is a bachelor's in rehabilitative science degree candidate with a concentration in addictions and substance abuse. She completed the Opioid Treatment Specialist Certification through Clarion University in addition to her degree requirements. A mother of three, she has also been involved with Venango Campus Rehab Club serving as both the treasurer and vice president. She has participated in numerous volunteer opportunities such as on-campus club promotion, special finals week events, and volunteering at a local nursing home facility. Horn is currently employed at UPMC Northwest Behavioral Health as a student behavioral assistant as well as at the Venango Campus Academic Resource Center as a tutor. Upon graduation, Horn will remain at UPMC and be interning at Venango County Human Services as a service coordinator. In the future, she hopes to work in a clinical substance abuse program.
Watch your student email for notification of the availability of additional tickets, if any, after April 29th.
Degree candidates who are unable to obtain their tickets in advance should contact the Admissions Office at 814-676-6591, ext. 1211 no later than April 26th. Your tickets will be held for you to pick up at Commencement rehearsal on Thursday, May 2nd.

Cap and Gown
If you have not yet ordered your cap and gown, you should do so in the Clarion University - Venango Bookstore no later than April 17th. The cost is approximately $35.00 plus tax for cap, gown, and tassel. Caps and gowns must picked be up at the Bookstore by Wednesday, May 1st. Please remember that the only adornments permitted are honor cords, Honors Program cords, and Phi Theta Kappa sashes.
Rehearsal for Commencement will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 2nd in the Rhoades Center gymnasium. All graduates who are participating in the ceremony are highly encouraged to attend.
Shuttle service from the First Energy parking lot across West First Street will be available beginning at 5:15 p.m. for your convenience. Please don't arrive prior to 5:15 p.m., as the gymnasium will be locked until that time.
Student robing for the ceremony will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Friday, May 3rd. The ceremony will last approximately one hour. After the ceremony, there will be refreshments for you and your guests to enjoy and celebrate, compliments of the Venango Campus Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.
Limited space is available in the auditorium for overflow seating and for those who must bring young children. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
