The University Theater will continue to show films this semester through Dec. 6.

The University Theater is open to the public, faculty and staff at a low cost of $4 for adults, $2 for children 12 and younger, and free for Clarion University students with a university ID. Concessions also are available.

The 188-seat theater shows second-run films after their release but before DVD availability, as well as classics, documentaries and films addressing social issues.

The University Theater, which has been open for almost three months, is a service to the community as well as an opportunity to grow the students since the theater is student operated, said Shelly Wilson, executive director of the Clarion Students Association.

"We're looking forward to the community really checking us out," Wilson said.

Because of licensing regulations, the films cannot be advertised, but they are listed in university events listings and on the Weekly Activities and Events page.

This restriction also provides the students with an opportunity to grow professionally. Wilson said she has been working with the Communication Department to have students aid in promoting the theater and also create trailers which advertise upcoming events on campus before the films start.

"We rely heavily on university promotions," Wilson said.

Another helpful promotion tool for the theater, which debuted this fall, is the Corq app, which is available for free download. The app is available through Google Play for Android devices and through Apple's App Store. The app lists not only films being shown at the university theater, but other campus events.
