Stay In – Stay Safe

Dear Campus Community,

Winter break is fast approaching, and we want to keep you and your family safe for the remainder of the semester and as you return home for the holidays. In addition to the recommendations and actions for students, employees are reminded that they should continue to work remotely whenever possible in order to reduce the overall campus density as well as to ensure the continued health and safety of others.
Effective 7 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10:
  • Stay In – Stay Safe
  • Stay in your room and limit contact with others, even roommates.
  • Eagle Commons will be To Go only. Utilize the Boost app to order meals for pick up at Gemmell and Starbucks.
  • Leave your room only when necessary, for example to get meals, use the restroom and the library.
  • Wear a mask when around others, even roommates. Remember to pinch the nose of your mask to prevent it from falling and preventing your nose from being uncovered.
  • Maintain 6 feet of physical distance between yourself and others.
  • Continue frequent cleaning and disinfecting of your environment.
  • Wash your hands for a minimum of 20 seconds and/or use hand sanitizer frequently.
  • Avoid touching your mouth, face, eyes and nose, and going out in public if possible.
  • Avoid gatherings, even small ones.
  • Feeling stressed? You are not alone, counseling services for students can be accessed through in-person or tele-counseling (Zoom) sessions. For an appointment, please call 814-393-2255.
  • Check the website for Eagle Commons take-out times, as well as library hours.
  • The Student Recreation Center will be closed for the remainder of the semester.
  • The recreational basketball courts next to Eagle Commons will be closed for the remainder of the semester.
  • Visit CU Connect for the latest information on scheduled events for the remainder of the semester.
  • Athletic practices will not be held for the remainder of the semester; student-athletes should contact their coaching staff for specific information.
  • Student workers should check with their supervisor regarding hours and work locations.
  • For students in residence halls, please connect with your CA on the proper way to prepare your room for break and attend virtual floor meetings in the coming days. Students in campus housing will need to move out by 6 p.m. Nov. 20.

o When leaving the buildings, please adhere to the 6 feet social distance guidelines and always wear a mask. Please limit outside guests to help you move out to one or two people. More information on the move out schedule will be communicated directly to students in campus housing.

  • Get a flu shot. The Center for Wellness has flu shots available for $20 which will be billed to your student account. Please call 814-393-2121 to schedule an appointment. You can also check with local pharmacies.

Please note that this advice applies to students who are asymptomatic at the end of the term. If you are symptomatic, in isolation, or quarantine during this time, consult with the Center for Wellness regarding a plan for your transition home. In addition to these steps, please speak with your family to ensure they are aware of and comfortable with the precautions you plan to take before returning home.

Academics

There are no special grading options for Fall 2020.   During the Spring 2020 semester, we switched mid-stream to a remote or online format.   Faculty had to adjust their assignments and testing to reflect the new modality, and many students needed to find lap tops, secure internet access and broadband connections.  Grading was adjusted to reflect that mid-semester pivot and the challenges that arose.  This fall, from the very beginning, faculty developed their assignments and testing with the remote or online mode in mind. Since there was no pivot, the grading policy was not changed.   The data analysis from the spring semester showed no overall statistically significant differences in GPA as a result of the grading policy changes.

We will provide a high quality college experience while ensuring that our students progress towards their degrees and graduate.

  • Experiential classes including student teaching, clinicals, externships, internships, and co-ops will continue as scheduled, with approval by community partners. Students in these placements will adhere to the social distancing, mask wearing, and other rules put in place the community partners. Please contact your instructor or advisor for the latest information. 
  • Classes that are currently scheduled to be offered online will continue online. 
  • All other classes, including labs, will be taught remotely, either by live remote (synchronous) or online (asynchronous) modalities. Students in live remote courses will need to log into their class via D2L at their scheduled class times to interact in real time with professors and other students enrolled in the class. Online (asynchronous) courses will not require logging in at certain specific times, but will have specific deadlines to complete coursework.

    Live Remote courses will show as "Live Remote" in the "Schedule" column. For example, "MoWeFr 9:00AM - 9:50AM, Live Remote."

    Online courses will show a "W" in the section code (e. -W01) and the "Schedule" column will list "Room TBA."

  • Enhanced student support services will be available online/remotely. 
  • Fall 2020 student teachers will begin Monday, Aug. 17. Students will work with their university supervisors to begin completing PDE competencies prior to the opening of field placement sites. Bands, Orchestra, Choirs, and Theatre

  • All band, choir and theatre classes are continuing virtually.  Performances, should they happen, will be virtual (streaming).

Housing / Dining

Housing

Students who wish to cancel on-campus housing in the suites or at Reinhard Villages can do so without penalty. This is a temporary release from your contract due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We would expect the 2-year living requirement to resume in the future.  Please complete the Contract Release Request and submit it to reslife@clarion.edu by Friday, August 7, 2020.  If at any time you would need to return to housing, please contact us and accommodations can be made.

If you wish to remain in campus housing, there will be new expectations for residents who live in the campus suites as well as Reinhard Villages to keep our communities safe: 

  • Outside guests are not permitted
  • Masks are to be worn outside of your room in the residence hall at all times
  • Physical distancing must take place
  • Common kitchens will be closed and only available through a key sign-out process
  • Study lounges will be limited with seating and physical distancing will be required
  • CDC quarantine guidelines need to be met if you or your roommate(s) show symptoms of COVID-19.  More information can be found on our Fall 2020 page under the HEALTH AND WELLNESS tab. 

Please plan to arrive to your campus housing on your scheduled move in day/time that was previously assigned. 

RETURNING FOR SPRING 2021

If you want to return to housing for the spring semester, you will need to resubmit a housing application that will be available later in the fall semester.  We will do our best to accommodate your requests, but we cannot guarantee the same room or same roommate at this time. If you already paid the $200 housing application fee for fall 2020, you will not have to pay it for the spring.

Dining venues will be restricted and occupancy limits set for locations.  Fall 2020 Dining requests have not yet been processed.  We ask that you re-submit your dining plan choice here and we will process all requests that occur after July 30.

Transportation

CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY BUS TRANSPORTATION

The Clarion Students' Association student activity fee funding provides public transportation services through ATA to the students of Clarion University as well as community members.  Student transportation is free with their Clarion University ID and community members can ride for the low fare of $1.25 per trip.  There are two designated routes; a campus loop which services students attending classes and campus activities with stops at Reinhard Village, College Park, and Eagle Park with other designated campus stops for the convenience of our students.  Additionally a community loop provides services to the Walmart Plaza, Clarion Mall, Clarion Hospital, The Clarion YMCA,  and various downtown locations.

COVID-19 Information

The Area Transportation Authority of North Central PA (ATA) provides bus transportation for Clarion University Students and the community from Reinhard Villages to the Clarion University Campus and several locations throughout the Clarion Area including a stop close to the local Wal-Mart.  ATA has been proactive in initiating procedures to monitor cleaning and disinfecting of the buses it operates in response to COVID-19.  ATA has treated all of its buses with permasafe, a perpetual antimicrobial surface, and air protection system.  More information on permasafe and the ATA COVID Green Caution steps can be found here

Health and Wellness

Clarion University will follow CDC and Pennsylvania Department of Health guidelines.

COVID-19 screenings and testing

  • Center for Wellness will coordinate mandatory self-screening of students who plan to return to Clarion, either on or off campus, prior to their arrival.
  • Students, faculty and staff must self-assess for symptoms daily by using the CDC COVID-19 Self-screening Tool App on a mobile device or at CDC.gov.
  • Students are advised to inform the Center for Wellness or Student Affairs of a positive COVID-19 test result or an illness that could be COVID-19 related.
  • Daily temperature checks are recommended prior to coming to campus or leaving your residence hall room. If a student in the Clarion area has a temperature of 100.4°F or greater they should quarantine themselves and call the Center for Wellness (2121) for further assessment. Employees should follow the guidelines set by Human Resources.
  • Center for Wellness will ensure that students exhibiting symptoms are:
    • Tested
    • Quarantined and/or isolated if needed
    • Monitored for physical and mental health status
    • Provided services and referrals as needed

Face masks

  • The university will provide two reusable masks for each student and employee.
  • Masks are required unless individuals are alone in a room, eating, drinking or exercising, or when it interferes with required curricular activities.
  • Students who cannot wear a mask can request an accommodation through the office of Disability Support Services. Employees should contact Human Resources.

Physical distancing

  • Physical distance of six feet must be maintained between all individuals.
  • Physical distancing does not negate the need to wear a mask.
  • Common areas have been evaluated and arranged to meet physical distancing guidelines. These include:
  • Eagle Commons
  • Study lounges
  • Computer labs
  • Floor decals have been installed to promote physical distancing.

COVID-19 ISOLATION AND QUARANTINE INFORMATION

What does isolation mean?

Isolation is used to separate people infected with the virus (those who are sick with COVID-19 and those with no symptoms) from people who are not infected. People who are in isolation should remain at home or in a designated residence until it’s safe for them to be around others. In the home, anyone sick or infected should separate themselves from others by staying in a specific “sick room” or area and using a separate bathroom (if available).

What does quarantine mean?

Quarantine is used to keep someone who might have been exposed to COVID-19 away from others. Quarantine helps prevent spread of disease that can occur before a person knows they are sick or if they are infected with the virus without feeling symptoms. People in quarantine should stay in their current residence or go home and separate themselves from others, monitor their health, and follow directions from the Center for Wellness or their state or local health department.

Relating to COVID-19, what counts as close contact?

  • You were within 6 feet of someone who has COVID-19 for at least 15 minutes
  • You provided care at home to someone who is sick with COVID-19
  • You had direct physical contact with the person (touched, hugged, or kissed them)
  • You shared eating or drinking utensils
  • They sneezed, coughed, or somehow got respiratory droplets on you

What happens if I am in contact with someone who has COVID-19?

  • Notify the Center for Wellness at 814-393-2121.
  • You will be asked to either go home or quarantine in your residence for 14 days after your last contact with a person who has COVID-19.
  • You may get tested.
  • Watch for fever (100.4°F), cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19
  • If possible, stay away from others, especially people who are at higher risk for getting very sick from COVID-19.
  • Someone from the Center for Wellness will check in on you daily by phone, email, or text.

What happens if I test positive for COVID-19?

  • You will need to isolate for 14 days.
  • This may be at home or may mean you will need to relocate (temporarily) to a designated area. Each case will be decided individually between the student, the PA Department of Health, and Clarion University.
  • If possible, stay away others, especially people who are at higher risk for getting very sick from COVID-19.
  • Watch for fever (100.4°F), cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Monitor your symptoms. If you have an emergency warning sign (including trouble breathing), seek emergency medical care immediately.
  • Someone from the Center for Wellness will check in on you daily by phone, email, or text.
  • Stay in a separate room from other household members, if possible.
  • Use a separate bathroom, if possible.
  • Avoid contact with other members of the household and pets.
  • Don’t share personal household items, like cups, towels, and utensils.
  • Wear a cloth face covering when around other people, if able.

What should I do if my roommate is isolated?

  • Notify the Center for Wellness at 814-393-2121.
  • You will be asked to either go home or stay in your residence for 14 days after your last contact with that person.
  • You may get tested.
  • Watch for fever (100.4°F), cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19.
  • If possible, stay away others, especially people who are at higher risk for getting very sick from COVID-19.
  • Someone from the Center for Wellness will check in on you daily by phone, email, or text.

What should I do if my roommate is quarantined?

  • Notify the Center for Wellness at 814-393-2121.

  • Watch for fever (100.4°F), cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19.

If I am isolated or quarantined, when can I be around others?

  • If you are quarantined and without symptoms, you should stay in your residence for 14 days after your last contact with a person who has COVID-19 or your roommate who has been in contact with a person who has COVID-19.
  • If you are isolated with mild to moderate illness and are not severely immunocompromised, you may be around others after 10 days have passed since your symptoms first appeared, at least 24 hours have passed since last fever without the use of fever-reducing medication, AND your symptoms have improved.
  • If you tested positive and never developed any symptoms, you may discontinue isolation when at least 10 days have passed since the date of your first positive viral test.
  • If you had severe or critical illness or are severely immunocompromised you may be around others if at least 20 days have passed since your symptoms first appeared, at least 24 hours have passed since last fever without the use of fever-reducing medications, AND symptoms have improved.

Student LIfe

  • University events will be limited to those that comply with necessary physical distancing standards in terms of the number of individuals in attendance, ability for physical distancing, use of masks and other precautions. No events will be held without clear plans approved by the university as meeting those standards.
  • Visitors
    • Visitors to campus are restricted to entering buildings and areas where they have a business/academic need.
    • Casual visitors will be limited to the University Book Store and Starbucks.
    • All visitors will be required to follow health and safety guidelines, including physical distancing and wearing a mask.
    • Areas where visitors are routinely expected (i.e. admissions and student financial services) will be provided a supply of disposable masks for visitors who do not have a mask.

Student Organizational Questions:

  1. Will there be RSO & RUO events allowed? A moratorium has been placed on face to face organizational events, both on and off campus, for the reminder of the fall 2020 semester. Additionally, there will be no use of rooms in the Gemmell Student Center (including the Multipurpose Room) during fall 2020. As noted in the PASSHE Fall 2020 Framework document, "Student groups should use remote methods to host group events, gatherings, or meetings to the extent possible." Organizations wishing to request an exception to this moratorium should email Matthew G. Shaffer, Director of Student Engagement & Development, at mshaffer@clarion.edu. Requests will be reviewed by the Student Affairs Leadership Team and should include a rationale for why an exception should be made, along with a detailed plan outlining how the organization plans to ensure that the event complies with University policies and CDC guidelines related to COVID-19. In the event an organization is granted an exception, they will be required to put the event in CU CONNECT so they can use the Check In App to track attendees. Exceptions are not guaranteed.
  2. Will Student Organizations be able to hold meetings in person? Per the afore mentioned PASSHE guidance, all Student Organizations will utilize video technology such as Zoom or Skype for meetings. This is consistent with how professional departments conduct their staff meetings.
  3. My Organization has an office. Will we be able to use our office? Yes, you may use your office however adjusted occupancy may result in fewer people being in the space at the same time. Conference & Events staff has adjusted occupancy for offices in Gemmell and you will be required to provide Barb Funk in the Gemmell Main Office a copy of your up to date roster which may be sent to her at bfunk@clarion.edu. You will need to be singed in at the Information Desk and let into your office as no keys will be provided this fall. Office availability is subject to Gemmell Building and Information Desk hours.
  4. If a group is permitted to host an event, will attendees need to wear masks? Yes. In the event that an organization is permitted to host a face to face event all participants/attendees must wear a facemask and/or face shields, regardless of whether event is indoor or outdoor. Students requesting a medical exemption for use of a face mask should contact Disability Support Services by call or text at 814-393-2095 related to documentation needed for a review.
  5. If group is permitted to host an event, will attendees need to be physically distanced? Yes. In the event that an organization is permitted to host a face to face event, all participats/attendees are asked to be six feet apart at all times.
  6. Can we have food at our events? The request to have food at a face to face event, should be included with the organization's moratorium exemption request. Generally, student organizations and other events with food will utilize pre-wrapped grab-&-go items only.
  7. Is my RSO permitted to travel? At this time, organizational travel is not permitted.
  8. May we use a CSA Van for essential travel? Due to the inability to follow CDC guidelines for physical distancing, ride-sharing in university vehicles will not be permitted. This means that only one person, the driver, may be in the vehicle at a time. The vehicle must be sanitized after each use. Van use will generally be if a group needs to use it to pick up programming items at Walmart.
  9. Will there be Intramural Opportunities, Club Sports, or spirit & dance groups, including Cheerleading available this fall? There will be no Intramural Opportunities involving physical contact. We will feature a variety of activities on a multitude of platforms including video gaming, individual competitions and challenges. Club Sports, and all spirit groups, including Cheerleading, and dance groups will look different for fall, 2020. The inability to travel or have activities involving physical contact limits Club Sports, Cheerleading, and dance groups generally to non-contact and physically distanced training such as use of weight training, film study, and recruitment. Individual Club Sports, or other groups, should contact Ewing Moussa a emoussa@clarion.edu to discuss options related to recruitment of members, individual training plans, or other non-contact options. Spirit, Cheerleading, and dance groups also may recruit members, create individual training plans, and plan for spring 2021 events but physical distancing limits all other activities.
  10. Is my organization permitted to have posters to advertise events? Yes, you may still provide copies to office such as in Gemmell, Residence Life, and the Carlson Library to have posters hung. Please follow physical distancing guidelines and wear a mask when dropping off your flyers. Use of CU Connect for advertising or via our TV station, channel 50, would also be a great way to advertise. Contact Todd Spaulding at tspaulding@clarion.edu with questions.
  11. My organization hosts events with outside groups. Are we still able to partner on these programs? No. Organizations are not permitted to host events with outside groups.
  12. Can my organization table in areas across campus? Tabling is considered a face-to-face event and an exemption must be requested.
  13. Will my organization still use the CORQ app for tracking attendance at outdoor events? Yes, organizations are asked to use CORQ to track face-to-face attendance at events. This will not only help you with data about who attends your events and help CSA track overall attendance but also provides information for contact tracing in the event an attendee tests positive for COVID-19. Organizations should also track attendance for virtual events through Zoom or other platforms. CORQ may be used to create an RSVP list for you to assist with the planning of your event and tracking attendees virtually.   14. What happens if my organization violates policies related to distancing, use of masks, and/or exceeding occupancy? If documented, RSO and RUO conduct policies would apply. In general, Student Conduct and Community Development staff would work with your organization to host events safely depending on the nature of the violation. More substantial conduct action could be possible for an organization and/or members depending on the type of issue or for repeated issues. As always, organizations are responsible for their attendees. This includes use of facial coverings and physical distancing.

Intercollegiate Athletics

  • The Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference voted Tuesday, July 14, to suspend all mandated conference athletic events and championships through the fall semester in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Conference has already undertaken a full review of its ability to shift fall sports competition and championships to the spring semester and fully intends to do so if a return to competition can be safely executed.   • Student-athletes will be permitted to participate in skill and strength training, and scholarships will be honored. Please contact your coach for additional information.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference voted on Tuesday, July 14, to suspend all mandated conference athletic events and championships through the fall semester in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Conference has already undertaken a full review of its ability to shift Fall sports competition and championships to the Spring semester and fully intends to do so if a return to competition can be safely executed. 
 
"The entire conference has worked hard these last few months to prepare for the return of sports to our campuses beginning this fall," explains PSAC Commissioner Steve Murray. "However, it has become apparent that the safe conduct of sports under the guidelines of social distancing is untenable for our members. We cannot place our student-athletes at greater risk than the general student body. Despite our planning and collective efforts, it has become clear that we are not able to do so."
 
"We are committed to giving our student-athletes the chance to compete during this academic year," adds Geraldine Jones, President of California University of Pennsylvania and newly elected chair of the PSAC Board of Directors. "Many institutions and conferences are facing the same circumstances as we are, and if it is safe to return to competition, we will work with them and the NCAA to provide our teams with a championship experience during the spring semester.  We know this is a huge disappointment for our student-athletes who work so very hard in their sport.  This decision was not taken lightly and we feel saddened by having to do so." 
 
The Conference and its member institutions will develop guidelines for all teams to continue individual skill instruction as well as strength and conditioning activities under social distancing protocols by the end of the summer. The determination as to when winter and spring sports may begin workouts and practices will be considered at a later date. 
 
"The circumstances we find ourselves in are unprecedented and thus we are taking unprecedented measures," adds Murray. "The contraction of COVID-19 and its viral spread are not the types of risks those involved with sports activities face under normal circumstances. Therefore, we cannot expose our student-athletes, coaches and university personnel to those risks. It is a painful step we are taking, but we feel it is the right one."  
 
All fall and winter sports scheduled to begin before January 1 are impacted by this decision. The Conference will evaluate the necessary schedule changes and will communicate its plans for moving all competitions to the spring semester at a later date.

"Throughout this entire process, our emphasis has been on the safety and welfare of our student-athletes, coaches and staff," said Dr. Wendy Snodgrass, Clarion's Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. "Due to the continuing course of the pandemic, leadership among the PSAC institutions has determined that it is in everyone's best interests to cancel all fall competitions.
 
"We know our student-athletes, who are eager to compete, are going to be disappointed that we will not have a 'normal' fall semester," Snodgrass said. "However, I want them to know that our leadership group is committed to doing all that we can do to plan for the safe resumption of athletic activity in the fall and, hopefully, a return to competition during the Spring semester."

Campus Recreation

Q: Will the recreation center be open?
A: The recreation center will be open to students, faculty, and staff only and will operate at a much smaller capacity. Students must have their student ID to use the recreation center. The cardio area will be limited to 14 users at once, while the weight room will only allow 20 users at once. The track will be closed and there will be no sports on the courts.
Q: Will masks be required in the recreation center?
A: Masks must be worn at all times in the building. Students may only remove their masks while actively using cardio equipment and are required to have them on as soon as they're off any cardio machine.
Q: Will there be intramural activities?
A: The recreation center will be hosting intramural activities that are safe and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Activities will feature esports through the newly acquired Geex gaming platform. Other activities will feature live gaming events, arcade gaming, mini golf, and various other activities.

Student Financial Services

The following updates to fees have been approved. Students’ bills will be updated as soon as possible. Please note that once your bill is updated you will receive an email notification. Additionally, students can log-on to MyClarion and see their amended bill once posted.

Parking

  • We have not processed any applications for the fall 2020 semester. No one who applied for a permit will be billed as we do not bill students for permits until they are physically picked up from our office.
  • Students coming to campus will not need a parking permit for the fall semester. You will be allowed to park in student lots (Resident & Commuter) during the day without a student permit. Please be advised that any overnight parking must be in Resident lots, we will still be enforcing the 2a-6a restrictions in commuter lots.
  • There is no need to e-mail us to cancel your permit request, we are purging any permit requests received for student permits.
  • If you need a permit for spring 2021 semester, the cost will be $75 (or ½ the full year parking permit cost) and you will need to apply when parking permits open over winter break.
  • During move in week (August 10th through August 16th) you may park in employee lots as needed to move in belongings on campus.
  • Employee lot restrictions will begin on Monday August 17th no vehicles without an employee permit should park in employee lots, students must utilize commuter or resident lots between 8a-4p beginning on this date.

Tuition

Tuition for the semester is set by the Board of Governors and will remain the same for the fall and spring terms.

Technology Fee

The tuition-related Technology Fee is charged each semester to each student in order: (1) to acquire, install and maintain up-to-date and emerging technologies for the purpose of enhancing student-learning outcomes; (2) to provide equitable access to technology resources, and; (3) to ensure, ultimately, that state system graduates are competitive in the technology-sophisticated workplace. This fee will remain the same for the fall and spring terms. 

Instructional Support Fee

The Instructional Support Fee is charged each semester to each student in order to upgrade instructional equipment, improve library holdings, and for other instructional purposes. This fee will remain the same for the fall and spring terms. 

Student Fee

A Student Fee is charged each semester to all Clarion and Clarion Online students to cover the cost of a broad array of career, counseling, tutoring, and technical student services and programs that are integral to student success. Departments receiving funding from this fee include:  Health Services, SOAR, Parent/Family Program, University Police, Career Services, Carlson Library, Counseling Services, Athletics, Judicial Affairs, Provost's Office, Student Support Services, and Leadership & Involvement. Due to the continuation of each of these services throughout the fall term in both digital and in-person service, this fee will remain the same for the fall and spring terms. 

UPDATED Semester Fees Charged to Clarion Campus Students

Rec Center Fee

  • The Recreation Center is anticipated to be open this fall term. However, operations will mandate that Clarion follow CDC and Commonwealth safety protocols. 
  • Students choosing to live in campus housing, including Reinhard Villages, will pay the normal fee
  • Students living in the community can pay the normal fee if they wish to utilize the facility in the fall semester. The per-use payment has been suspended for the fall term and commuter students wishing to use the facility will need to pay the normal one semester fee.
  • Students who will not be residing in on-campus housing will be exempt from this fee for the fall term unless they wish to utilize the facility as noted above.

Student Center Fee

In order to maintain proper safety protocols, the Student Center will be closed to general use. Due to this change, all Clarion campus students will not pay the Student Center Fee for the fall term. However, the following spaces will be open to students living on-campus.  

  • The Sono restaurant/space will now be rebranded as The Gemmell Café and will be available for food pick-up for students residing on-campus. 
  • The Student Resource Room will be available by appointment through web-link with contactless pickup
  • Student Organizations may be use office space by appointment to control for overall physical distancing and density.
  • The Student Mailroom will be open
  • The PSECU office will be open
  • No fee charged 

Student Activity Fee

To be determined based by Clarion Student Associations. Update to be provided soon. 

Semester Fee Charged to Venango Campus Students

Venango Student Support Fee

No change to the Clarion Student Support Fee will be made as those services will still be available.

Additional Information

  • Student work study will resume in the fall, however, positions may be limited and/or remote where applicable and prudent. Please visit the JobX site for open positions. Employers/Hiring Managers can inquire with their Vice President on student employment positions and availability of hiring.
  • Tuition for the semester is set by the Board of Governors and will remain the same for the fall term.

  • With primarily remote instruction, all merit scholarships will be honored and applied to fall charges as before. Latest employee communications

As we strive to keep everyone healthy and safe, you may encounter some resistance to protocol. Confrontation is a normal part of life, but the steps you take to manage the confrontation can enhance communication and produce a desirable outcome. We encourage employees to practice the Four 'E's of Communication – Engage, Explain, Encourage and Enforce -- when faced with non-compliant behavior.

6/29/20 - employee communication

Employee schedules may be modified to reduce the number of employees reporting to work, taking meal breaks and leaving work at the same time. Telecommuting will continue to be an option as a means of decreasing employee density on campus. Department managers will work with the appropriate vice president to develop work schedules that meet campus, employee and student needs while being sensitive to physical distancing requirements and reduced density on campus.

Employees and students will be reminded regularly of the need to practice good hygiene in relation to washing hands, covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing, and addressing illness at the onset by not reporting to campus when ill or after having been in the presence of others who may be ill.

The university will provide students and employees with two reusable masks. Students and employees will be required to wear a mask when in the presence of others. For employees who are unable, for medical reasons, to wear a mask, face shields will be available. The university will work with employees who are unable to wear a mask to provide, if possible, work assignments that comply with physical distancing requirements. Employees in identified areas such as, but not limited to, the mailroom, will be provided gloves. 

Students and employees will be advised of the requirement that informal gatherings meet guidelines for physical distancing, including spacing, wearing masks, and not sharing of food or drink.

A team of faculty and administrators has reviewed university facilities to ensure that instructional, office and lounge spaces meet physical distancing requirements. Where necessary, furniture has been labeled or removed. Office space will be equipped with shields, floor decals and doorway devices to provide protection and distancing compliance for employees and students.

Non-essential travel for employees is discontinued. Clarifications of essential versus non-essential travel should be sought through the appropriate vice president.

Employees and students will be advised to inform a supervisor, Human Resources, or (for students) the Center for Wellness or Student Affairs of a positive COVID-19 test result or an illness that could be COVID-19 related. Employees who report symptoms consistent with COVID-19 will be required to provide appropriate documentation from a physician prior to returning to the workplace.

Positive test on campus

Clarion University has been made aware of an employee who has tested positive for COVID-19. The employee self-reported the positive test result and is isolating at home. To protect the individual’s privacy, no further details will be available.

Clarion University is working to mitigate risk for our students, our employees, and the communities where we live and work.

The university has notified individuals who may have come into contact with the employee. In addition, spaces where the employee has visited are being sanitized.
