High Quality Powdered Metal Products

Elk County Powdered Metal (ECPM) opened their doors in early 2012 and in their first quarter they were already exceeding their projected goals. This was due, in great part, to the leadership of Mr. Paul Stillwell, President and Owner of ECPM.

Mr. Stilwell was no stranger to the Clarion University SBDC. He worked with the SBDC on many occasions while employed by another area manufacturer. When he decided to go out on his own and form his own powdered metal company, he surrounded himself with a great team and quickly got to work by calling the Clarion University SBDC for assistance. The SBDC, along with North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission (NCPRPDC), met with Paul’s team and quickly analyzed the needs of the emerging company from a financial aspect, as well as a marketing aspect.

The SBDC worked closely with the owner to develop an extensive set of financial projections as well as identifying the specific target markets for success. Together, the SBDC, the NCPRPDC and the company ownership made the project a success.

The SBDC worked closely with the owner to develop an extensive set of financial projections that was used to secure funding. In addition, the SBDC assisted in identifying specific target markets for optimal market penetration. Together, the SBDC and NCPRPDC provided the needed help and funding to support in the successful start of up Elk County Powdered Metal.

Our primary philosophy at ECPM is to approach our relationships with our Customers and Suppliers with Honesty and Trust, Period!"

The business moved into an empty 16,000 square foot, multi-tenant manufacturing warehouse and retro-fitted the building to the specifications of the powdered metal industry. Their primary market has been manufacturing parts for pulleys, winches for block and tackle, flanges, rollers, and conveyor belts for recycling plants, and automotive, lawn and garden components. Additionally, in just a few short months ECPM has already become ISO 9001:2008 certified.

Elk County Powdered Metal are experts in the short run production of high quality powdered metal components. They specialize in structural components up to 15 square inches in surface area. ECPM works with all iron based materials, stainless steel and specialty bronze and brass.

But don't count them out when it comes to higher volumes. They are well equipped and have a tremendous amount of experience with higher volume customers and product. The business presses and sinters powdered metal parts from two tons to 500 tons.

“Because of the help of the Clarion University SBDC in doing extensive target market research for ECPM, we are on track to reach 125 percent of our first year sales goal and have already hired seven full-time and four part-time employees. The SBDC's help with our business plan also provided for an effortless flow in our loan procurement process” said Mr. Stilwell.
