Students are introduced to descriptive cataloging using currently accepted national rules, alphabetical indexing using Library of Congress Subject Headings and Sears List of Subject Headings, and systematic indexing using the Dewey Decimal Classification and the Library of Congress Classification. The structure and use of manual and automated catalogs and indexes are considered. |
