OIL CITY, PA- Clarion University-Venango Campus invites the public to a celebration of the opening of two new student apartment buildings and the completion of the restoration and renovation of West End Pond on Wednesday, September 2, from 5 until 7 p.m. at West End Pond at the campus.  A brief program will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Parking for the event will be available at the Penelec lot at 1600 West First Street. Shuttle service between the event and the parking lots will be provided on the "National Transit Express" Trolley. Entertainment will be provided by the popular Pittsburgh-based classical/rock cello group Cellofourte. Refreshments and tours of the apartments will be available.

Leadership Hall was made possible by Mike and Joyce Hughes, who have funded two other student apartment buildings at the Venango Campus. The building's name recognizes the leadership contributions of hundreds of men and women who have helped to provide life-changing educational opportunities for the residents of the region since the campus' inception in 1961.

Bradford George Carmack Barnes Hall was funded by retired accounting professor Greg Barnes in memory of his son.

West End Pond, a treasured community landmark and important natural resource, was restored to its original size and lighted walkways, a pavilion to be used for entertainment, a fire pit, Victorian clock, and other amenities were added to provide additional recreational and educational opportunities. The project was funded by private, corporate, and charitable donations, and grants made possible through the help of state and local legislators and community leaders.

With the two new buildings, the student apartment complex now houses 89 students in five buildings. When complete, the proposed seven-building complex will house 132 students.

Like the first two buildings, the new buildings were designed by Ligo Architects of Slippery Rock and developed by Whalen Contracting, Inc. of Franklin, and owned and managed by the Clarion University Foundation, Inc.

The apartments are fully furnished and include upscale amenities. Rent covers all utilities, including heat, air conditioning, internet access, cable television, local phone service, and off-street parking. Academic year and extended academic year leases are available. First priority is given to students from beyond commuting distance.
