The painting area in the Department of Art is focused on helping students develop technical skills, visual acuity, critical reasoning abilities and art historical/cultural knowledge. Emphasis is on creating a challenging and stimulating atmosphere and the peer community necessary for development as an artist. Individual attention from committed faculty and extended studio hours are benefits of studying at Clarion University.

 


Courses Offered


ART 260:  Introduction to Painting

Students explore basic materials and techniques of oil painting. Stresses fundamentals of pictorial organization and visual expression; includes introduction to Contemporary and Art Historical painting.

Prerequisite Art 121 or 110.

Offered each semester.

 

ART 360: Intermediate Painting

Encourages integration of conceptual concerns and thematic focus in painting. Experimentation with subject and materials; working toward developing a personal aesthetic direction in relation to Contemporary art.  Regular critiques and assignments.

Prerequisite Art 260.

Offered each semester.

 

ART 461: Advanced Painting

Integrating conceptual concerns and thematic focus in painting and working toward developing a personal aesthetic direction in relation to Contemporary art in preparation for BFA Exhibition.  Regular critiques and assignments. 

Prerequisite Art 360.

Offered each semester.
