Please join us for the 2013 Charles H. Peck Mushroom Foray, which for the last 60 years has brought together mycology students and faculty from academic institutions in New York and Pennsylvania for a weekend of collecting and identifying fungi. Mushrooms and other fungi including gilled mushrooms, boletes, polypores, tooth fungi, puffballs, coral fungi, and cup fungi will be collected on the trails surrounding McKeever Environmental Center by the participants and brought in for identification and display. For those new to the mushroom foray experience, proper collection techniques and assistance identifying your treasures will be provided. Please refer to the Tentative Schedule of Events for additional details and information regarding the weekend. While the foray continues to be student focused this event is open to all mushroom enthusiasts and otherwise curious folk. No identification experience needed but a sense of wonder and desire to learn required.
This year the foray will be held just a few miles off of Interstates 79 & 80 at McKeever Environmental Learning Center near the quaint town of Sandy Lake, PA. McKeever is nestled in a lovely mixed hardwood forest, where we are sure (weather permitting of course) to have a bountiful crop of mushrooms to keep us busy. During our time at McKeever we will make good use of the on-site facilities including the Auditorium for talks and presentations, the Discovery Building for identifying and displaying our wonderful fungal finds, the dining hall to share meals and discuss our wonderful fungal finds, and the outdoor amphitheater for the evening socials. McKeever has 3 lodges that can accommodate up to 50 people each. The lodges have 2 bunkhouse-style wings equipped with individual showers and toilets as well as a large central lounge area for gathering and socializing. No on-site camping is permitted. If you prefer to stay off-site, see the Hotels and Campgrounds page for other accommodations in the area.
Please refer to the links on the left for the registration forms, foray cost options, other local accommodations and tentative schedule.
