A Martin Luther King Jr. Reception is planned for 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 23 in the multi-purpose room of Gemmell Student Complex. Admission is free and open to the public.
Guest speaker will be Dr. Earl H. Tilford, whose topic will be, “Needed: A Vision Beyond the Dream.” Tilford’s most recent book, “Turning the Tide,” will be released in late January. “Turning the Tide” is an institutional and cultural history of a dramatic decade of change at the University of Alabama set against the backdrop of desegregation, the continuing civil rights struggle, and the growing antiwar movement.
Tilford was professor of history at Grove City College from 2001 to 2008, where he taught courses in military history, national security and international and domestic terrorism and counter-terrorism. A retired Air Force intelligence officer, Tilford earned his doctorate in American and European military history at George Washington University. From 1993 to 2001, he served as director of research at the U.S. Army's Strategic Studies Institute. He also authored three books on the Vietnam War and co-edited one book on Operation Desert Storm.
