Welcome to the College of Arts, EDUCATION & Sciences

biologyThe College of Arts, Education, and Sciences is the largest academic unit at Clarion University, and is thus uniquely situated at the center of the Clarion experience.  Our teaching, research and service are now more important than ever as we prepare our students for success in the 21st century.  The College features more than 40 undergraduate and graduate degree programs across numerous departments, centers and programs.  In addition, several degree programs offer specialized concentrations as well as a variety of minors that enable students to explore multiple fields of interest.

The mission of the College encompasses four vital components:

  • To provide a high quality liberal education experience designed to stimulate the intellectual development of all university students;
  • To provide a breadth and depth of knowledge, skills, dispositions and competencies to prepare graduates for employment within their chosen fields;
  • To prepare education and special education majors to achieve teacher certification and pursue successful teaching careers; and
  • To improve the quality of life for society through research, service to the university and surrounding communities, and meeting the cultural and intellectual needs of the region.

To achieve this mission, our uniquely designed academic and co-curricular programs provide students with exceptional opportunities to acquire knowledge while simultaneously developing an appreciation for diverse perspectives, a complex global community, and the importance of life-long learning.  We embed several high-impact education practices into the academic experience -- including service learning opportunities, study abroad, and internships, among others -- to engage students in a variety of ways.  Our outstanding faculty and staff are dedicated to student success and the teaching mission of the university.  We bring the latest research and technology into the classroom, as well as create an enthusiasm for learning.

In addition to high-quality academic programs, the college sponsors many events that are open to the community, including conferences, concerts, theatrical productions, exhibitions, science fairs, lectures, symposia and workshops. The college website is constantly updated with information regarding these events.
