B.A. Theatre

The Department of Theatre at Clarion University is an undergraduate program offering both the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees. The program provides classroom and practical experience that enriches the lives of students and produces live theatre that enhances the cultural life of the university and the surrounding community. Education takes place not only in the classroom but also in theatrical laboratories and the world at large. Practical experience through dynamic and ambitious theatrical productions supplement classroom training. Many graduates are currently working in professional theatres. Minor programs in theatre with concentration areas of acting and technical theatre are available to students regardless of major. Participation in most departmental performance activities is open to all students regardless of major. The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is open only to students through prepared audition or portfolio review. Dates for these auditions are scheduled each semester. B.F.A. Theatre: Acting Concentration

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting affords the student the resources and opportunity for an acting career. The program stresses the fundamentals as well as technical skills needed in the industry. This program is offered only at the Clarion campus.

B.F.A. Theatre: Design Technical Director Concentration

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in technical theatre and design allows students to pursue a career in lighting, scenic design, costume and properties design, stage management, scenic construction and painting, and technical direction. Students get extensive experience mounting main stage productions. They also are encouraged to take a major design and staff positions in these productions when ready. This program is offered at the Clarion campus.

B.F.A. Theatre: Musical Theatre Concentration

The Bachelor Fine Arts in musical theatre prepares students for a career in professional performance. The program focuses on acting, dance and singing and musical skills through course work in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. This program is offered at the Clarion campus.

B.S. Liberal Studies: Theatre Concentration

Student who wish to obtain a liberal studies degree but also have a flair for the dramatics should consider a B.S. in liberal studies, theatre concentration. Our theatre faculty are trained actors, choreographers, dancers and musicians. This degree could open you up to a career in front of and behind the scenes of the entertainment industry. This program is offered at the Clarion campus.

BS Liberal Studies: Arts and Entertainment Management Concentration

The Bachelor of Science in liberal studies arts and entertainment management concentration is a degree intended for those interested in a career on the business side of the arts. Agents, bookers, producers, managers and marketers provide the structure in which the arts can thrive, whether in a theatre setting, a concert venue, museum or gallery and is the fastest growing area in the arts both in the commercial and not-for-profit sectors. The program requires foundation studies in an arts area of the student’s interest as well as a full range of business studies and practical experience in an internship. This program is offered only at the Clarion campus.

Minor in Acting
