The Clarion Chamber Singers made Clarion University proud with a performance at Southward Chapel in London and at the Llangollen International Music Festival where they placed third in the world in the Youth Choir Division.

The Clarion University Chamber Singers are coming home champions from the 2016 Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales.

The group took third place in the Youth Choir Division of the Choir of the World competition on July 8.

Dr. Stephen Johnson, director of the Chamber Singers says, "Our students now realize that with hard work and dedication, Clarion University can be both competitive and successful on the world stage, and I couldn't be more proud of their accomplishments."

He continues, "In addition to having an opportunity to compete against and interact with university singing groups from around the world, our students have the opportunity to spend several more days touring and performing throughout the United Kingdom."

Following the competition, the Chamber Singers have performed in recitals in several churches in London and Stratford-upon-Avon, England and Killarney and Dublin, Ireland.

They are also visiting many historic and cultural sites throughout the UK until their return on July 15.

"The educational benefit to our students, many of whom have never traveled outside of the United States, will make them more aware of world events as well as the differences, similarities, and connections between people around the world," explains Dr. Johnson.

Earlier this year, Clarion University Foundation launched an online fundraising effort and the students sold coffee and fudge, held tag days at several local businesses, and paid their personal expenses to help fund the once-in-a-lifetime trip abroad.

The Chamber Singers have been keeping their friends and families updated about their experiences at the competition and their travels throughout the United Kingdom on social media.
