Our Mission

The Center for First Year Experience's mission is to provide a supportive environment to ease the transition of our first year students into the academic, cultural and social life of Clarion University.  The opportunities and experiences we provide are designed to build the skills, knowledge and values necessary to achieve academic, personal and professional awareness.

Clarion's first year students will courageously go after their dreams with the confidence to know they can.

SOAR2Success: The First Year

SOAR2Success (S2S) is a mandatory program designed to help first-year students who have been placed on academic probation (fallen below a 2.0 GPA).  Student Success Coaches from The Center for First Year Experience will guide students as they take charge of their academic success.  Students will complete a module on D2L that will guide students in understanding:

  • What is academic probation and what does it mean for me?
  • Academic probation and my financial aid
  • First semester challenges (a self-assessment to identify factors that prevented satisfactory academic progress).

Click here for more information about the requirements and details of the SOAR2Success program.

FIRST YEAR FRIDAYS

First Year Fridays are hosted each Friday of the fall semester outside of Becht Hall.  Student Success Coaches host the event and offer freebies, such as t-shirts, food, and free information!  Each week there is a different topic briefly covered.  For Fall 2017, themes will include communicating with your professors, time management, and study tips.  Stop by the table anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Fridays!  We will CU there!
