Minor in Sports Media

The sports media minor gives all majors a chance to get in on the action and learn about the media side of the sports industry. With classes in theory and production, this minor explores sports in our global society. Flexible options allow you to learn the why and how behind producing live sports coverage, writing for sport media and promoting different types of sporting events, covering everything from in-venue entertainment to outside contests and events. This 18-credit minor provides options for concentrating in a specific area of sport media, but also provides hands-on experiences to provide the foundation in writing for sport as well as sport media creation and coverage. Theoretical options include coursework relating to sport in society; specifically, sport ethics, gender in sports, sports management and sport facilities and events. Certificate in Public Relations

This 15-credit program is designed for public relations professionals, business owners, non-profit managers, and others to update their skills or gain formal training in this fast-growing profession. Working through Clarion Online, you can complete the PR certificate in approximately one year. Coursework provides you with a broad-based foundation in public relations through applied courses in principles and practices, writing, cases and campaigns, professional ethics, leadership, and principles of advertising and marketing. Graduates are qualified to work as public relations assistants, managers and executives. While the PR certificate can be earned as a stand-alone credential, all of the PR certificate courses can be applied to fulfill requirements toward the M.S. in mass media arts and sciences degree. With careful planning, you can incorporate the courses required for the PR certificate into the M.S. degree program and complete both programs within the total 36 credits needed for the master's degree.
