Venango executive dean accepts position at New Mexico university

December 20, 2016

Roxanne GonzalesDr. Roxanne Gonzales, executive dean of Venango College, has accepted the position of provost and vice-president of academic affairs at New Mexico Highlands University, Las Vegas, New Mexico.

In her two years at Clarion, Gonzales advanced the mission of Clarion University, Venango campus in particular, along many fronts, including drafting advisory reports for online education and veterans' affairs at the institution.

Under her leadership, the Venango College faculty and staff grew enrollment in existing credentials in nursing, counseling, health sciences and nutrition and fitness, among several others. These efforts included the development of a graduate-level credential in mental health counseling and a certificate in concussion management. Enrollments in the comprehensive credential ladder in nursing reached all-time highs.

Gonzales also ushered in new relationships with nearby community colleges, including recent efforts to explore partnerships with Beaver County Community College and the Community College of Allegheny County.

"This was a very difficult decision, because Clarion is a wonderful institution with a mission in which I believe and support," Gonzales said. "The Clarion team serves our students well through exceptional programs, faculty and student support."

Gonzales said many parallels between Clarion and New Mexico Highlands University drew her to the position and the institution. Gonzales' appointment with Clarion University will end March 3.

Clarion University will identify an interim replacement in early 2017 and will begin a search for a new dean of the college soon thereafter.
