December 18, 2020

Best Value BadgeClarion University ranks in the top 10 nationally for Best Early Childhood Education Programs for 2020 by Best Value Schools.

Clarion University ranked 10th in the rankings and was one of two State System schools to make the prestigious list of 30 schools.

"The schools on this list were chosen and ranked based largely on the affordability of program although factors such as flexibility, a variety of offerings, and program quality were also significant factors in determining the order," Best Value stated on its website.

Clarion offers an associate of science, a bachelor of science in education and a minor in early childhood education.

The associate program is designed to prepare early childhood professionals for entry-level positions through construction of knowledge, skills and dispositions related to child development and the importance of early care and education.

The bachelor of science in education program provides candidates with multiple opportunities to gain the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to become effective decision makers in a multicultural society. In a sequential format, early childhood candidates are inducted into the education core, proceed with a series of pre-methods courses, and engage in a sequence of field experiences that begin in the first semester of the program.

The minor consists of six courses focused on gaining skills and education needed to effectively interact with young children and families in a variety of settings. Ethical conduct, culturally responsive teaching, and community advocacy are dispositions woven throughout the minor courses.
