Careers and Internships Secondary Education

Graduates of the secondary education program who complete all program requirements are eligible to apply for PA Instructional I Teaching Certification. This certification enables graduates to teach in grades 7-12 in public, private, parochial, magnet, charter and online school settings.

PennWest Clarion School of Education faculty continually update their coursework and field experience assignments to reflect the changing school environments as well as Pennsylvania and National Academic Standards for learning and teaching. School of Education faculty are all certified teachers and average more than 15 years of K-12 classroom experience.

While a few courses in undergraduate education programs may be offered online, the majority of the program is on campus in highly interactive face-to-face instruction. Field experiences in schools are integrated during all four years of the program, with larger blocks of time spent in grades 7-12 school settings during the senior year.

While the majority of Clarion education graduates find employment within the Commonwealth, the high standards required to earn a PA teaching certification make it highly portable to other states.
