Safe Zone

Our Mission

Safe Zone is a program which identifies faculty and staff who will provide empathy, acceptance, support and resources for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, cross-dressing, intersex, and questioning students.

Students will be able to identify Safe Zone-trained individuals by the Safe Zone symbol posted in those individuals' workspace. They can go to them for help, advice, or just to talk in confidence to someone who will be supportive and accepting. This symbol also means that biased and offensive actions and comments will be addressed in an educational and informative manner.

Our Vision

As a cornerstone to lifelong education, PennWest Clarion is an inclusive institution that thrives on diversity and actively embraces the unique contributions of all people.

Our Goal

The Safe Zone Ally Program responds to the needs of the Clarion University community. The goal of this program is to provide a welcoming environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender persons by establishing an identifiable network of supportive persons who can provide support, information, and a safe place for LGBT+ persons within our campus community and with persons in our local community. Those who have committed to being Safe Zone Allies indicate that bigotry and discrimination, specifically regarding LGBT+ persons, are not tolerated.

history

Throughout history, men and women have been coming out. Educate yourself on these trailblazers throughout history and the struggles and victories they have had and continue to experience.
